What to Expect the First Day

Meals are normally delivered between 10:45 am-12:30 pm by one of our wonderful volunteers. To ensure food safety, we will never leave the meal if you are not home. We cannot leave it outside or inside, even if there has been a note left.

The driver will ring the doorbell and follow the instructions we have given them about whether or not to proceed into the home or wait at the door for someone to accept the meal. If you do not answer the door, we will assume that something is wrong and the driver will call our office.

When you accept the meal, please either eat the meal or refrigerate immediately for food safety measures. Any food that you don’t eat immediately should be refrigerated and eaten within two days or thrown away.  The temperature of your refrigerator should be less than 41°F. Please do not leave your meal at room temperature.

If you choose not to eat your meal immediately, you can reheat your three compartment paper meal tray with the clear film seal by placing it in the microwave on high for 2-3 minutes or putting it in a 350°F oven for 10 minutes. The food should be hot and bubbly and reach a temperature of 165°F on an instant-read thermometer. Do not put the paper containers in a toaster oven.

If you have not received your meal by 12:30 pm, please call our office. If there is severe weather and the roads are bad, we may be unable to deliver meals. The local TV stations will be notified of any closing that Mobile Meals has.
