Carol Naifeh1. What is your favorite meal to cook and why?

I have been a driver for Edmond Mobil Meals for the past eight years.  Not once during that time have I volunteered as a cook!  Yes, I have been asked to don a mesh cap and rubber gloves and do whatever it is the cooks do in the kitchen, but alas, I do not like to cook! However, I happen to be a soup freak!  Therefore, my favorite meal to cook at home is any kind of soup. 

2. If you were stranded on a deserted island, what two items would you want to have with you?

Two items making the situation better would be my djembe (drum) and a great pair of athletic shoes.  The drum could provide music, facilitate meditation, and be used to garner the attention of those who would hopefully be searching for me.  The shoes would allow me to exercise and/or run away from any predator!

3. If you were a cartoon character, who would you be?

When in college, I was given the nickname Pebbles by my sorority sisters.  Pebbles, the red-haired daughter of Fred and Wilma Flintstone, wore her hair pulled up on top of her head.  That is the way I would wear my hair to bed back in my college days….ok…. and today too!4.      

4. What is your favorite, or funniest moment delivering meals at EMM?

I have many!  One of the best involved a client’s dog.  I love dogs and am always happy to be greeted by a four-legged friend. This man knew I liked dogs so would always allow his little companion to greet me at the door. But, every time the client opened the door, his dog would run up and pee on my leg.  Aagghhh!  After numerous “greetings”, I refined the polite way to give the meal, check on the welfare of the client and exit quickly!

5. What is your favorite family meal tradition?

Two traditions come to mind.  The first is a cultural tradition and favorite family food.  Any meal that celebrates a holiday or special event must include stuffed grape leaves.  This is a delectable Lebanese specialty.  The love of these stuffed grape leaves has been handed down through generations.  The cooking and preparation of these grape leaves has also been handed down but somehow skipped me.  (Refer to my answer to Question #1!)  I routinely order grape leaves from a Lebanese woman in Oklahoma City who spends her days cooking. The second tradition is one I started when my three sons were small.  At our Christmas meal, everyone at the table has an English Cracker.  After popping them open, reading the silly jokes, and showing off the included toy, we sit around wearing the silly paper crowns that are always included in the cracker.  Many family photos around the dining room table show us wearing these silly paper hats!
