HurstDon and Gayle Hurst are our volunteers of the month for January 2016. This couple moved from Texas almost a year ago and has hit the ground running ever since. We are so thankful for their positive attitude and willingness to serve in any way they are needed. Learn more about them below!

Q: What initially interested you in Edmond Mobile Meals?
A: Before moving to Edmond, we had driven and delivered meals in Dallas for the organization "Meals on Wheels" for many years. When visiting in Edmond we had driven with our daughter on her routes, so we had knowledge of the Edmond program before moving here. Of course her involvement in the organization was important to us and just added to our conviction to be volunteers. We knew it was a great Organization.

Q: What do you enjoy most about serving with our organization?
A: We enjoy your organization and the way you function. Directions are so helpful when you are new to the area or driving a neighborhood that you don't know. We enjoy having the chance to greet the people to whom we deliver and getting to know the community better. We also enjoy meeting other volunteers and visiting with them and the staff. It allows us an opportunity to make new friends.

Q: If you were stranded on an island and could only bring 3 things with you, what would they be?
A: Water, food and books.

Q: Why do you think it’s important to serve the community you live in?
A: Serving the community is very important in our lives. We find it very important to assist others and try to understand their circumstances or situation. We don't believe you should only live for yourself. God expects more of us than that.
