Friendly Visitor Program

Edmond Mobile Meals has developed a new Friendly Visitor program to provide companionship and meaningful personal connections to our homebound seniors in Edmond who are most at risk of suffering from isolation and loneliness. Friendly Visitor Teams are matched with a client based on interests and scheduling needs. Friendly visitors might play games, take a walk or share a cup of coffee and pastries with their “adopted” client. Too often homebound seniors feel isolated from their communities and lack basic human companionship. Just a simple, weekly face-to-face conversation can make all the difference in their overall health and well-being. In addition to committing to provide friendly visits, the friendly visitor team will sponsor their adopted client’s meals for an entire year.

How do I sign up a Friendly Volunteer Team?

Step 1

Get a group of friends, co-workers or family members and form a friendly visitor team.

Step 2

Register a team online. All team members must be 18 years of age and pass a required background check. Edmond Mobile Meals pays for the cost of the background checks. (Download Background check policy pdf). All team members must sign a general liability waiver and return to Edmond Mobile Meals before the first scheduled client visit.

Step 3

Edmond Mobile Meals will send your team leader an email once all team member background checks are completed and clear.

Step 4

Your team will be matched with an Edmond Mobile Meals client who has indicated they wish to receive visits and additional face-to-face contact with volunteers. Your team donates $1,200 to feed your “adopted” client for an entire year.

Step 5

Your team leader coordinates and schedules visits with your adopted client throughout the next 12 months.

Step 6

Edmond Mobile Meals will periodically check in with your team leader for feedback, stories & updates to share with the community.

What are the Responsibilities of a Friendly Visitor Team?

Friendly Visitor Teams are matched with a homebound client based on personality and interest, so that a bond can easily be developed. Once paired, your team volunteers are expected to provide friendship and conversation. In some cases, Friendly Visitors offer minor assistance where appropriate (e.g. walks in the neighborhood, computer assistance, etc.). Teams commit to 12 months of visits, scheduled at the discretion of the volunteers and the client.
Your team will be responsible for donating $1,200 to cover the cost of the client’s meals for one year
